Sari Story #3- Handloom, jamdhani and Jute

It's pleasant winter evening in these otherwise warm climes. That means I can wear this beige and white sari. The beige panels are jute and the white  a Jamdani weave. Jute is also a main stay of west Bengal and Jamdani one of it's most famous weave. I shall speak about the weave in my post about the Jamdani sari. However this weave of alternate panels of jute and Jamdani is a relatively new innovation, so i have no nuggets from history to toot here. The only thing I can tell you is that the sari drapes like a dream. the weight of the jute compliments the gossamer thin panel of the jamdani and the result is a drape that is both flattering and comfortable.

I am wearing it with an ivory blouse with a self-weave , styled like a crop top .

The  border is woven with two colours of blue satin-cotton.

More big words, more burden.  Any city approached against this reputation will suffer. In this Varanasi doesn’t’ disappoint.  Among the noisy  roads, the clamouring streets,  hungry mouths, greedy touts, priests who like any good business men speak in your own tongue, telling you the stories you want to hear and just as swiftly turn into an Avenging Angel of Moral Justice when they feel they are under-paid,  there is no space here for spirituality, unless you are happy with a bottled, erstaz version, for a price naturally. The River is majestic. ...
